Have you become unemployed? Here’s how to get through it

A lot has changed since the corona crisis, particularly our way of working, as we had to avoid gatherings and working on-site. But what does the situation look like now and in the future?

The impact of the corona Crisis on the Job Market

The corona crisis has significantly impacted how we work today and how we will work in the future. In this blog post, we explore how the job market has changed and will continue to change due to the corona crisis.

High unemployment in the job market

Many people became unemployed during the corona crisis because companies had to cut back on staff due to a lack of work or financial constraints. This was especially evident in the country’s unemployment insurance funds, where unemployment at one point increased by 50%. This surge in unemployment has had a huge impact on how the job market looked and looks now. While many have found jobs again, there is still high unemployment that will take a long time to return to normal levels.

If you have also become unemployed, you can read more about what to do in our previous blog post about unemployment due to corona.

A more flexible and digital job market

The corona crisis has enabled us to see the job market differently than before. We have become more aware of a digital and flexible job market, which has been necessary in many workplaces.

Due to corona, many suddenly had to work from home, making digital meetings and flexible working hours more common. For many, it was and still is challenging to work from home while maintaining the same level of productivity. You can read more about how to manage working from home in our previous blog post.

However, the shift to more digital and flexible working methods is not solely due to corona. The trend has been developing for a long time, and the crisis has just accelerated it. We have long known that the digital job market would become part of the employment landscape – it has just arrived a bit sooner than expected.

What does the future job market look like?

The future of work is inspired by the positive aspects we learned during the corona period – flexibility and digitalisation. We are becoming more fluid without fixed locations and organisational structures. There is a high likelihood that digital offices will become more common.

The question remains whether we dare to fully embrace digital work. What happens to the shared identity of the workplace? Social isolation may become more of an issue as we meet less frequently. However, we might also become more efficient, skipping long meetings and getting straight to the point. This new digital and flexible job market offers both opportunities and challenges.

What about recruitment?

Regarding recruiting new employees, we have learned that fewer physical interviews might be necessary. All interviews and tests can be conducted entirely online. This can make the experience very different and might make it harder to get an accurate impression of the candidate and the chemistry between the applicant and employer. However, it can also streamline the hiring process.
