A department manager holds a leadership position. Typically, a department manager is considered a middle manager, but they can also be part of the top management team, depending on where they work.

A department manager oversees a specific part of a business or organization and is usually responsible for the daily operations in that area. Typically, this manager is the closest to the employees working in the department.
Department managers can be found in all types of companies, organizations, and institutions. They have varying degrees of responsibility and a wide range of tasks. Department managers exist in everything from hospital departments to schools, including elementary schools, high schools, and universities. Additionally, department managers can be found in supermarkets and retail stores; for example, an electronics department or a kitchen department. In supermarkets, it could be a meat department. There are also department managers in manufacturing companies, overseeing areas such as product development, packaging, distribution, and production.
